A mixed game for the ref. An excellent first half was followed by a mediocre second half and this is a friendly judgement.

Everton could and should have had two penalties. The first one was when both Rooney and Vidic just took Fellaini by his shoulders and pushed him down on the ground using their hands and arms. The Everton player could not move and the MUdefender could head the ball away.  The other one in extra time when Gueye was brought down by Evra when he was going to the ball. Evra was coming from behind on the striker so he had his eyes on him all the time and should have avoided contact. He didn’t avoided it and ran in to his back. Seconds later the ref gave a simple free kick in the middle of the field to MU for a somewhat similar running in the back of a player.

Another moment that didn’t went unnoticed was when the first assistant had to stop after hurting his back and Phil Dowd stepping up to do the last minutes as the assistant. This was also a reason why 6 minutes of extra time was awarded because it took a while before the game could restart.
