A subdued performance from Bolton meant that Ref Probert had a quite day at Anfield, 3 contentious moments, all around penalty appeals by the home crowd.
Probert had an excellent position for the first and was dependant on his assistant for the 2nd and 3rd. The 2nd was called wrongly, but understandably so, Zac Knight falling to the floor grabbed the foot of Suarez, his body shielded the action from the assistant on that side, I had the advantage of replay and 3 cameras before I decided it was a pen, however a pen is a pen and it was missed.
The same assistant correctly called the 3rd appeal. I was astonished by how little the whistle was needed in this game, I am sure Probert was happy with his performance, I thought he did OK and certainly showed no favouritism. You can see this if you look at the total of correct fouls and the total of not correct given fouls. And after all this is what we ask of the refs.
As we had the game between Bolton and Manchester City last week it is a bit astonishing to see the difference in game style between the two games. Last week it was kick and kick for a large part of the game and this time it was a very different type of game. Are there any tactics involved?
