As you will have noticed, we don’t have a betting odds column this season, since Walter and Dogface have migrated across to the Referee Decisions web site. So it is down to me to guide you on the issue of Premier League betting odds.
Dogface, I know, used to draw pretty graphs and illustrate everything with references back to the Chinese betting markets. I can’t do this so all I can do is link you to some of the bits I have picked up.
Fortunately for me there is an Arsenal team betting page . At first site this is not too exciting… in that we have Arsenal to beat Olympiakos at 4/11. Fair enough, and not really enough to get a buzz going. But what if you have a desire for an emotional roller coaster.
But how about this one
Arsenal ahead at half time but lose – 80/1. Now that’s what I call odds. And in a sense a way of keeping what is left of my sanity. I would hate that result, but if I put a fiver on it would walk away with a load of dosh.
But if personal insurance against disaster is not your thing, and you love the edge of the seat stuff, how about Arsenal to win 4-3 at 100/1.
Of course sometimes it gets a bit crazy. Olympiakos to win 10-0 at 500/1. No I don’t think so.
But, if you are a regular reader you will know that in August 2009 I made a typical Untold Arsenal pre-match prediction that the opening game of the season would end Everton 1 Arsenal 7. No one, of course, took me seriously.
But with the score Everton 1 Arsenal 6 Ramsey, on as a substitute had an open goal in front of him. There were 90 seconds to go. All he had to do was tap the ball in.
He belted it, and it missed.
I didn’t have a bet on that game, but just think, somewhere someone would have been offering “If Arsenal are 6-1 up with 90 seconds to go and Ramsey misses a sitter, we’ll pay off your mortgage.” I could have done with that one.
But really it is all there. Jenkinson to score the first goal? No, I don’t think so. But how about Vermaelen to score twice – that’s on the list. (What is not there but I think might start turning up soon is Jenkinson to retain his place at full back when Sagna is fit. I don’t think Sagna did himself any favours at all with his outburst recently, and Jenkinson has really impressed me so far.
Of course once you get onto these sites there are all sorts of bets you can do. Man U to get relegated yes, I would love it. And 1000/1 is not bad – but I just can’t see it. Which I suppose is why it is 1000/1 (There are probably all sorts of people out there who put money on deals like that though, just in case. I mean they did go down in the early 1970s. I remember their first match in the second division – Orient away. It was a massed riot from dawn til about 2 the next morning).
Arsenal are currently 500/1 to get relegated – which is interesting, given that we were elected to the first division in 1919 – and so have by far the longest reign in the top league of any club in the history of the universe. I’m already writing the celebratory articles for the 100 years in the top division. I suppose I could put a fiver on that as insurance against my having to scrap my forthcoming book, “100 Years at the Top”
Anyway, thanks to Paddy Power for tipping me off. And in case you missed it Arsenal team betting page is the page I was playing with.
If you win something let me know.
