Arsenal Ladies, having won the FA Cup, League Cup and the Super League are now moving on to the Champions League.  They have won the first leg of their round of 32 match 4-0 away to FC Bobruichanka.  The second leg is on October 5 and the round of 16 matches in the first half of November.

The season is structured differently from the men’s game, with the League being a summer season, followed by the league cup (the Continental Cup).  The FA Cup is played as per the men’s system, but the Super League clubs are excluded until the last few rounds – normally meaning they don’t have to play until March.

England’s other reps in the Champions League are Bristol Academy who are not associated to any men’s team.

This arrangement means that Arsenal are left without any competitive matches from now on until March 2012, save for the Champions League games, which could lead to significant problems.  Arsenal have won the Champions League once, but that was before the super league with its summer agenda was invented.

As far as I know there’s no promotion or relegation in or out of the Super League, so the League and the lower Premier League, will continue next year as this.

Arsenal reserves remain unbeaten after five games, and are second in their league, two points behind the leaders.  In their last game the team was

Some names are starting to become familiar here.  Martinez is the Argentine keeper who was suddenly called into the full squad last summer.  Miquel we know as a fringe first team player, Ozaykup is a Dutch youth international who came on in the league cup match, as did Chuks Aneke.

Ryo we all know; he must be considered a first team squad member, but is picking up his experience.

Sanchez Watt was part of the 2009 Youth Double winning team who spent last season on loan with Leeds (I think – I’ve lost my notes and the Arsenal site doesn’t help), and played for them 25 times.  He must now be seen as a league cup and maybe FA cup player, ready for the moment to step up to the first team.

Like Freeman did loan spells at Yeovil and Gillingham last year and is looking to go on loan again this year.
