Ref Review: Arsenal vs Sunderland (0 – 0) [18/08/2012] « Untold Arsenal: Arsenal News. 800,000 visits last month

For two years now we have been reviewing the performances of referees in matches involving Arsenal.  Last year we introduced reviews of non-Arsenal matches.

Now we have once again expanded, and we have set up a separate site to review the non-Arsenal games: Referee Decisions.

Links to some of the recent reviews on the Referee Decisions web site are shown at the bottom of this post.  Arsenal reviews will continue to appear on Untold.  So off we go with Chris Foy and his activities in the first match of the season.

One thing is for sure. The game was played in a rather good spirit. No real dangerous challenges so the ref had a rather easy afternoon this time.  Sunderland defended well but never went over board. The time wasting was a bit of a problem and in this Foy was again very weak. Not being at the game I cannot judge if he ever urged the keeper to get on with it. If he didn’t it should have cost him another point.

Let us have a look at his competence numbers in this game

A very un-Foy score this is. A score well above 80%! That is way better than what we were used to last season when he even didn’t manage to get the 70% score.

So a very encouraging start from Foy to this season. Is he going to be the surprise packet of this season? Well the season is still early so better not draw too much conclusions on this game. But rather good I would say.

Let us see if it evens out in this game and have a look at the bias numbers

The first half was not just excellent in terms of competency but also in his bias numbers he scored the perfect score!

Alas he couldn’t keep this up in the second half and he became back a bit the Foy we used to know. Or maybe not completely because he was known last season as a home ref but this didn’t happen at the Emirates this time around.

Not much mistakes in fact but the majority going against Arsenal.
