Untold Arsenal: Arsenal News. Supporting the Lord Wenger in all he does » What is happening to the 15 players who were on loan last year

This article was published at about 8am on 11 May but there were reports from readers that it was not visible, so I am trying it again.

Tony

There were 15 Arsenal players on loan by the end of the season.  Here’s an analysis of them – the percentage figure at the end comes from the vote undertaken by Untold readers a month or so back, in which our grand list of 30 Golden Players who might make it through was presented.

Players who have been rated 0% were simply not on the list.  Other players who were listed and highly related include Coquelin (23%) Eastmond (56%), Merida (48%), Mannone (19%) and Wellington Silva (26%).

Please note that these are only the players who were on loan as the season ended, so some who came back earlier were excluded.

——————-

Luke Ayling – Yeovil Town

Three substitute appearances for the defender.  This was an end of season loan for one of the guys who has been with the club for eight years, and who was in the double winning youth team last year.

Chance of playing in first team next season: 0%

Kyle Bartley- Sheffield United

A centre back who played nine times plus four sub appearances between February and May. Another youth cup winner.

Chance of playing in first team next season: 15%

Pedro Botelho – Celta Vigo

25 appearances and one goal for Celta Vigo where he was all season.  A Brazilian left back who has also played on the wing.

Chance of playing in the first team next season: 2%

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas – Doncaster Rovers

12 starts, and one sub appearance between March and May, resulting in great reviews and five goals.  Captain of the youth double winners, he can apparently play anywhere, but midfield seems to be best.

Chance of playing in the first team next season: 60%

Kerrea Gilbert – Peterborough United

During the season of the seven left backs he played a number of games at Highbury, and looked a solid defender, but since then he’s been on loan all over the place and hasn’t developed.

8 appearances and two as sub between mid January and the end of the season at a relegated side is not that wonderful for a 23 year old.  If his contract is now up, he will presumably go.

Chance of playing in the first team next season: 0%

Gavin Hoyte – Brighton and Hove Albion

Hoyte the younger got 18 starts and 2 appearances as a sub between October and May, and before that was reserve team captain.  But there is a feeling that as he now reaches 20, he hasn’t quite made the cutting edge.

Chance of playing in the first team next season: 0%

Henri Lansbury – Watford

34 appearances and four as a sub, plus five goals in a season long loan at Watford where he looked very sharp.  Turned up in the final game and played for the first team at Arsenal, very powerful midfielder who can turn on every trick under the sun, and then score.

Chance of playing in the first team next season: 12%

Havard Nordtveit – Nurnberg

19 starts in a season long loan, although there was debate about which position he was being given.  This was his second season on loan, having captained the reserve side.  Now 20, and a lot is expected of this centre half.

Chance of playing in the first team next season: 26%

Mark Randall – MK Dons

12 starts and five appearances as sub between January and end of the season, it looks like his time has come and gone.  He played in the last game of last season, but there has always been talk of his attitude, and maybe that’s the problem.

Chance of playing in the first team next season: 0%

Philippe Senderos – Everton

Following a loan spell with AC Milan, there was one start and one appearance as substitute between January and the end of the season – in fact nothing since February.   So what went wrong?  Was he injured, or has the form utterly deserted him?

There’s no sign that he has any way back.

Chance of playing in the first team next season: 0%

Jay Simpson – QPR

The feeling is that he is good but not good enough, and with us buying another forward this summer, his time has come and gone.

He started 38 games for QPR and came on as sub in 3 more, and scored 13 goals so he can do it one league down, but perhaps not in the EPL.

Chance of playing in first team next season: 7%

Gilles Sunu – Derby County

Six starts and 3 as sub, plus a goal for our forward, who is very highly rated.  He’s 19, won the double last year, and has played in the league cup side.

Chance of playing in first team next season: 11%

Wojciech Szczesny – Brentford

Started 26 games after moving to Brentford in late November, and rated by many readers as the man who should be forcing his way into our team.

Chance of playing in first team next season: 42%

Sanchez Watt – Leeds United

Just one start and four substitutions, following his loan in late March, for our 19 year old double winner who scored in both legs of the Youth Cup final last season.  He’s both a winger and a centre forward.

Chance of playing in first team next season: 13%

Jack Wilshere – Bolton Wanderers

Bolton want him back for another round of games next season after Jack started 11 times and came on once as a sub between February and the end of the season.  He got one goal and seemed to be calming down a bit.

Chance for playing in first team next season: 96%
